Our partners in crime over at Fightlinker.com posted a post (?) about how the guys from bloody elbow posted MMA rankings that have been picked up by USA today. Cool. If rankings weren’t stupid. I think Ryan from fightlinker sums it up nicely with this line from their post:
“In the end though, rankings are fucking dumb and shouldn’t be used as anything other than for reference or to piss off people you disagree with.”
Boxing has rankings. And they’re also stupid, but what people forget is that official boxing rankings were invented and made prominent to serve and actual purpose: to determine who deserves to fight for a championship belt. Read more
Denis Kang Versus Marvin Eastman

Our MMA homeboy and perennial butt kicker Denis Kang went on the BetUS Fight Talk Radio show this week and announced some pretty solid news: He’s fighting Marvin Eastman in Calgay, Alberta, Canada in October on the new Raw Combat MMA promotion.
Denis has been fighting overseas for so damn long, its almost hard to remember him as a good ol’ Canadian kid. But alas, he’s returning to his homeland to fight the hard hitting MMA veteran on his home turf. Read more

This Saturday, theres simply an assload of Mixed martial arts going on, Affliction has pooled together their overpriced t-shirt money to lure a bunch of AWESOME UFC fighters from 2001 to battle it out in the first Affliction MMA event, and the UFC has struck back by sending Middleweight champion Anderson Silva up to light heavyweight to take on Hard hitting James Irvin.

Fighting in Sports

I was watching some random 4am sports montage on some random cable station about fighting in Major league sports. The story was about how our hero’s are teaching our kids that violence is ok.
First off, I just want to say that soldiers are the real hero’s right? Whether we agree with the premise of why they are there be damned. We are here, they are dying, we are still sitting here…end of discussion.
So lets for a moment forgo the obvious problem I have with calling them heroes and focus instead on what they were actually doing. Violence in sports is never going away, and it is for the most part few and far between. Only when you are looking to scrutinize something do you begin to notice its regularity. Read more
