To commemorate Patrick Roy’s balls out goaltending and temper, (as well as his son laying a shellacking on an opposing goaltender this weekend) lets take a look at a couple of sweet goalie dust-ups. Lots of videos below the fold.

Too often goalies get pegged as the most”cerebral” players on their teams. Reclusive, uber intense wierdo’s. But keep in mind that they still had to come up through the minors playing HOCKEY, and theres no high school to the pro’s shiat going on in hockey…you have to earn your way to the bigs. Even goaltenders.

So sit back, suck on a cream egg and think twice about running the crease in your next rec league game of shinny.

Ray Emery vs Marty Biron

Ray Emery is a goaltender for the Ottawa Senators, which is cool. But he’s also an ex Golden Gloves boxer and would probably kick the snot out of most of the tough guys in the NHL. Marty Biron, goalie for the Buffalo Sabres found out in a hurry, but even tough guy Andrew Peters has his hands full after he steps in to help his goalie:


Dan Cloutier vs Tommy Salo and the New York Islanders

Dan Cloutier is a well documented scrapper from even his earliest days of growing up in the “Soo” (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario). Here, he lays a snotknocker on Tommy Salo and after smearing this guy all over the ice, he proceeds to call out the entire Islanders bench. Effing sweet:

    In the hockey highlight “holy shit lookatthis c’mere c’mere!” department, a goalie fight is topped only by a women’s hockey fight, agreed? But WHAT IF there was ever a GOALIE FIGHT IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY?…Could something this MIND BLOWING ever occur in our lifetimes? Is the military prepared for the ALL OUT ANARCHY that this would surely trigger?!

    The clip doesn’t show the best part of the Roy-Osgood fight. Young Osgood calls him out from the other side, like a madman, while everyone on the ice is fighting. He throws his gear off while skating that direction and tangles angrily with some other Av on the way. Roy shows Osgood his back and, in a calm, gentlemanly fashion, lays his stick on the top of the net, unstraps his blocker and mitt, sets them neatly on top, removes his helmet and sets it on top of everything else. Then he turns toward Osgood, rolls up his sleeves, skates out and beats the crap out of him. Classic
